Every now and then my PC will completely freeze up and I have to reset it maunally. CTRL+ALT+DEL won't even work. I get no mouse movement or anything. I don't know if it's because I installed a program or whatever. My PC is still fairly new so I'm not sure what is causing this. I've tried defragging, ScanDisk, checking for malware and viruses. Still nothing stops this. Is there any other way to remedy this? I really don't want to format my harddrive just to find one problem.

Anything in your event viewer that corresponds to the time/date of a freeze?

No. The card and pc came with vista. And when I check the event viewer it usual happens 5 minutes after startup. But when I reset it, it won't happen again

And what error codes are showing, esp. under the system events? If you double click on them, what message/instructions are you given?:wave:wave

OK. I've checked Event Viewer and the times my PC has froze up. I found this:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    i8042prt

Keep up mind that is the time my PC has frozen.

This is a system driver usually associated with the mouse and keyboard. Either of these wireless?

    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt
edit the "Start" Value to 4.
This will change onboot_service to disabled.

Now you might have a problem with the keyboard. If you do, use the onscreen keyboard go back to the registry and change the value from 4 back to 1.

Doing one or both steps seems to have solved the freezing problem for quite a few people.
