Windows Vista Issue with Startup/jst got new ram*

Hi there everyone. I have an issue with my laptop which just got a ram repair. It came with a faulty stick of ram and so I took it in and the place repaired it.

Though now, when I start up, I have a bunch of applications that crash, such as the vista dashboard thing on the right, my avast virus scanner, and most importantly internet explorer. Everytime I try and start it up the windows closes and it says in the details box, "application crash".
There are also other programs that dont start up as well , that is just a few. I have checked msconfig and there boxes are checked, though in the status area it says "stopped" on those programs that dont work.

I dont know what this issue is, its very strange and I hope one of you kind folks can give me a hand. Thankyou so much for your time.

I'm with Senlis ... test that RAM.

If the amount of RAM changed on your machine then you might want to change the page/swap file size and the hibernation file size. But that's all much less important than testing the RAM.

 

I'm curious... how was it repaired? Did they replace it or simply remove a faulty stick leaving you with half of what you had? Paired RAM is sensitive, it needs to be matched to what you have installed. Most RAM is too generic.

 

Hey guys thanks for your reply, my ram was replaced, the faulty stick was taken out and replaced.
I am not sure to the exact details that is just what they told me. I can try the test link thing you guys gave me but I dont have internet on my laptop, once I get a memory stick(tomorrow) I will let you knnow the results.
Thanks for your time guys, and if you need to know any more specifics please ask I need to get this fixed soon, and I dont want to take it back to them because I know they left it like that in anticipation that they would get my money.

Also I should add that I have full access to my desktop, and certain programs work. There are some that dont though such as IE, and when I open it the application crashes as it does with many other programs.
