Windows Vista Loading Issues after MoBo/CPU Upgrade

I just upgraded my MoBo and CPU. Whenever I start my computer, I get an error message stating "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded" Which I looked up and the bulk of the replies stated it could have been the battery, which I replaced (Its a watch sized battery on the mobo) so I put in a new battery, toggled the CMOS reset (The mobo is an Asus M3N72-D) and started it back up. Once again, the CMOS checksum error popped up, and I hit continue. Then got a message stating Vista wasnt started properly, and how I wanted to start it, so I chose continue like normal, and it showed the loading screen for Vista (the bar scrolling from left to right) for about 3 swipes of the loading bar. Just at the begining of the 4th swipe, it freezes, and has stayed that way for the past half hour. I was hoping that it was just taking a long time to load, but thats not the case. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue? I have 2 gig of RAM and its an AMD dual core (Dont remember the exact model number right now but I believe its either 2.6 or 2.8ghz) and everything else was what I was using before. The graphics card is a 9600GTX, and Im using onboard soundcard and the HDs are fine as Ive never had a problem before.

Is there something I should have done before replacing the mobo and cpu? Any helps greatly appreciated, as Im going nuts trying to figure this out, and dont really enjoy using my Blackberry to go online. Thanks in advance!

(Im including 2 pictures of the screens I am talking about. Unfortunately they were taken from my phone, so I dont know how well they will be able to be seen online. Hope they at least help a little bit!)

Fyi I tried to start in safemode, and it freezes on crcdisk.sys if that's any additional help.

Uhm, have you reinstalled windows? ^^

    If so:

Did you install the chipset correctly and everything before you installed all drivers etc.?

    :)

Vista was already installed. I was hoping that it would have just loaded any drivers. I took out the new components and put my old ones back in and it runs fine with no problem now. When I get home tonight I'm gonna try to redo everything, and see if what I could do.

Could it be the bios that's the issue? If so how do I install a new one if the components won't load? Can I do that using my old components and it'll be recognized once I load everything up with the new stuff? This is driving me insane and I don't wanna spend $50 for diagnostics and $99 for labor, which is the lowest price in my area. I just hope its something on my end that I can do myself. Was thinking that maybe it was the graphics card and gonna try to use the onboard until I can get it working.

... No, you have to reinstall Windows once you have switched CPU and MO/BO.. With old computers it wasn't really necessary but these days with new motherboards and CPu's you have to, especially when you're switching to a new motherboard with chipset and stuff.

    :p That's the problem, I promise! haha

Just get another harddrive (the easiest way is an external) and plug it in, save all the pictures / music or whatever you want to save, and also download the chipset installer and drivers for the new mo/bo and paste it into the external harddrive, then turn off the computer, switch mo/bo + cpu and voilá, ready to install windows :) just put the disc in, do a new clean install on your harddrive, boot up windows and do all settings. Then plug in the external and Copy + Paste the chipset and drivers to your desk, install chipset and drivers etc. =) then it will work fine!

    Further questions, just ask =)

It won't let me get into windows at all to install anything. Not even starting up with the vista disk in the drive. Is there a way around that?

hm okay? So what happens when you put in the disk and boot the computer, does it ever show the Title "Press any key to start with CD..." ?

1/ If it will work with the rest of your old components, start with them, and leave the new graphics card out.

2/ When you start your computer, press f2? to get into the bios, and then load default (sometimes f9)
If it starts now, then change items one at a time.
If it does not, then you will have to re-instal

When I have the disk in, it doesn't recognize it at all. It'll show the bios start then goes directly to the windows load screen with the bar, and freezes. Almost like I didn't have my cdrom installed. With my old components it loads like it wants to install vista again like it should.

Did you read the thread at all? What he's saying is that windows will not function correctly when he's running the new MO/BO and CPU. What the heck has the gfx to do with it? Also, TO ME, it seems that the TS hasn't even installed a clean 'n' fresch windows at all after he upgraded the mo/bo & cpu ......

Are you sure you have set the CD rom as #1 boot ? in Bios? You might have to set the bios in the new mo/bo, then reboot, again!

Honestly, I didnt even think to check to make sure that CDROM was set as 1, I do know that one of them is (I have a burner and DVD) and theyre both set as 1 and 2, just dont remember which is which.

Ive gone into the bios and adjusted the time and everything, and after hitting save/restart itll show like 5 lines of text stating some basic info and then go to black screen. I did try using both CDROMs though, just in case, but ones a CD/DVD Burner and the other just a straight DVD. Dont think that would make a difference as far as reading, as Ive used the burner to read after burning a cd, but maybe through the BIOS it does.

Ill be trying to get everything working tonight. Im hoping that its some minor crap. Right now Im transferring everything from my C drive (docs and what not) to one of my other HDs. Thank god I dont have that much crap on it, cause its already saying something like an hour+ to copy and paste it.

I really didnt realize a clean install of Vista was required. This is the second upgrade to the mobo, and I didnt have to do that before, but that was also something like 5 years ago, so obviously much has changed.

I appreciate the help. If Ive given any new info that may change any of the help Ive already received, please let me know. I have no problem at all showing my ignorance lol!

This sort of talk does not help .
I read the post, and at one point , it stated that it works with the old componenents, that lead me to understand that Vista was in fact installed, but would not work with some new component.
I highlighted the graphics, as this was MEGAMFRE'S own conclusion, as I have seen graphics card stop a pc working properly, and I have personally removed them, and fired up , on the on-board graphics.- Give MEGAMFRE credit, for the suggestion. I found faulty pci-e cards did this.
Another point I make, and have seen it happen, often, is that sometimes the boot menu at -say f12, does not always save, and boot, as rquired, but the bios boot option can often overcome this.
A point I feel has been missed, is that the date was reset- I think this should be checked each time the pc is started, as if it always needs resetting, I have seen occasions where Xp/ Vista might not load, as is the case here.
Even new cmos batteries, can be faulty- worth checking with a meter.
The dvd rom's do seem to matter, when loading the operating system, as it sometimes misses the slave dvd, when you have two.
Hard drive failing can also cause similar problems, but, not if it runs with the old parts-
Perhaps, I have misunderstood, and megamfre has only put in a new motherboard, and cpu, and the graphics card, is the original. Also that it was meant that if the old motherboard, and cpu were put in, and the other parts, then it worked.
If that is the case, then MEGAMFRE- my apologies.:-o

Ugh! A success or sorts... It now loads completely, but as soon as the screen goes black after the Vista load screen, my monitor blanks out and has the message "input not supported" even though I'm using the onboard graphics! I have nothing installed in the mobo except my hard drives. I've gotten this message before on my old components, but a hard restart always fixed it. I know its loading up to the login screen cause I can hear it going through the motions and then going silent at around the time it should be asking for my password. Any ideas?

Not sure if I stated before as I'm using my blackberry right now, but the mobo is an Asus M3N72-D. And even trying to load in safe mode I get the input not supported message on my monitor.

Ok maybe I should wait till I've tried everything first. I got it to load using low resolution mode. Guess my old resolution wasn't working? My login showed up as huge, but then went right to how it normally looks at 1280x1024(I think) and after that everything looks exactly how it should. I'm gonna try restarting again after I've installed all the drivers and see how it goes from there.

Everything is working perfectly with no other hardware installed, just the new mobo and cpu. Just an irritating thing with the audio driver having a different volume control than the windows volume control, but thats fine since I control the volume with my speaker knob anyway. Now its time to install my video card and hope that it works with everything else. It was working perfectly with my old hardware, so Im hoping it will do the same with the new stuff.

Everything works now. Only issue is when I install my graphics card that works with my old components, I get a message on my monitor stating "Input Not Supported" yet I had no issue at all with it working before. Any ideas? I dont think the onboard graphics card will handle games too well, and all the driver information is already installed, and I reinstalled it after receiving the Monitor error the first time, and still no luck.

Also having issues with the onboard sound card. When I run the Realtek HD Audio Manager and play the test sounds, it works, but Im not getting any sound from any running programs.

Check your Bios settings to see if there is a switch to turn off the onboard and switch to the slot.

I am glad you tried the on-board graphics, as you at first thought. Thesunscreens's suggestion about going into bios, and see if there is a setting to turn off on-board graphics, then put the card in, might make that difference-
Have you updated the bios, as this seems to be the latest from Asus site for the M3N72-D BIOS 1402

SEE spec from Asus on your board
    http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=8jYT1euVL4wCyH04
Also their list of supported cpu's goes up to the Athlon 64 X2 4400+
