I read that Windows Vista requires 40 GB of HD space, 15 of which are used for the storing of temporary files during install.

Should I take this at face value?

I've installed Vista SP1 over Vista over XP Home on a 20 gig hard drive on an older DELL desktop as an experiment mainly, but it worked OK on 20 gigs.

Can't guarantee how it works for you, of course.

Hm, well my goal is to dual boot using Windows XP as my primary, and windows Vista as my secondary. I want to learn about Vista, but I'm nowhere near ready to commit to it.

Would a 20GB HDD be sufficient in holding both Vista and XP and allowing both to run efficiently? If not, what're my options? I have a secondary drive at 200GB, but it's only got 10 free, and I can't figure out how to partition anything larger than 3GB with Partition Magic.

Boy you are stretching the limits. :D You probably could but you would have almost no HD space left to work with in either OS. Bazza

So, should I assume that it wouldn't be recommended to format my C:\ and cut it in half for the two operating systems?

If not, can anybody suggest a way to partition 10GB or so out of my D:\ drive?

If you still want to go ahead with this, I'd think about a 5/15 partition for XP/Vista. I don't guarantee that VISTA would install in 15 gigs though. Bazza
