i have been talking to my friends about moving to windows vista but have been told by a few peopel that it is spouse to scan you you computer for mp3s and checks if they have a licence and if not it deletes it.

now if this is true i wount be moving on to vista for a very long time.

i was wondering if anybody else had heard about this and if it was true or not?

    Not even remotely true.

I have Vista, and all of my unlicenced music is still there.

Untrue, although there are reports that you will get NO sound output from sound ports that don't have DRM drivers.

I can provide a link as an example, if anyone cares.

Actually, I would appreciate a link, if you don't mind. There are so many crazy rumours about Vista DRM out there, I appreciate any accurate information I can get my hands on.

Sure, accuracy is always debatable. Let me pull it up.

    no sound in vista

i think i might having this problem because i just installed vista ultimate 64 bit and i don't get any sound at all except when i boot up the laptop. it plays the boot up sound then nothing after that i have tried to multiple drivers and installing uninstalling different programs to play the sound.

what confuses me the most is that the sound plays on the boot up but no where else.

the laptop is a fujitsu siemens amilo 3667 everything else seems to be working fine. The audio is a VIA AC'97 sound card.

anybody having the same problem or any helping suggestions?

Have you tried the drivers from here? I don't know if they'll work for you but it's worth a shot.
