Im having trouble with File Sharing on my Vista Ultimate Network.

I can get all my Stations to "See" one another, and I have set up permissions on the "server" but I can't seem toget them to connect.

Everytime I try and access the C: Drive on the Server I get the following:

"c" is available, but the user account you are trying to log on with was denied access.

windows cannot further diagnose the problem because network diagnostics does not know the user name and password that is required to connect to the shared folder.

Can anyone offer me any sort of advice on how to proceed?

I have read a little bit, and I have no clue how to determine is "Simple File Sharing" is on or off, and I don't know how to assign "NTFS" Permissions.

Look at "Password Protected Sharing" in this article.

I have been all over File Sharing, PAssword PRotected Sharing, everything.

I can't figure out where I'm going wrong.

Make sure there is one account on both machines that is identical - same username and same password.

I have Identical Accounts on both the Server and the Workstation.

I have the Workstation trying to contact the Server. So I have the Workstation's Username/Password on the Server.

Do I need a Duplicate Server Name/Password on the workstation though?

Also, I get a connection error stating that More than one account with the same name can't be logged in.

I know when I started doing this, the machines all had Willy-Nilly names. I went in and renamed them all to more recognizable names. Is there, perhaps a situation where the OLD names still exist in a cache or Registry Entry somewhere than needs to be changed?

    No

Very possible but I am not as familiar with Vista sharing as XP so wait for someone else to chime in on this.

I'm currently trying to get a network up and running between Vista and Ubuntu via Lan line. At any rate I contacted Microsoft and have exchanged a few emails (there's free tech support for "SP1 related issues" until March of 2009 http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&prid=11274&gprid=500921). Anyways here's a few things to try from MS:

This didn't solve my problem but maybe it might solve yours. I think you can replace guest with a valid user name.
