Windows Vista password recovery

hey i have recently forgotten my password to a Windows Vista acount because i reset it and i was wondering if their was a way to recover my password instead or resetting it. I have tried Ophcrack but it never seems to work with vista, and i am to nervous to download anything else in case of viruses. Help Me.

 

Is this account the Admin account or a normal user account? From your post, sounds like a normal account that you have reset before, and can do the same again, but to recover a password my first choice would be what you have used in the past (making sure you have the latest version).

 

Its the administrator account but i have done normal accounts before and its worked, i probably just need the Ophcrack Live cd version for vista but i dont want to go to an unsecure website and download a virus into my system. do you know of any secure sites to download this from.

Thank for the information but sourceforge.net, but it only has the xp version and when i tryed it on my computer it said it is encrypted so i will probably just have to figure a way to get live and does the SIW system that hrLow2 recommended detect downloads for viruses.

 

SIW is not an anti-virus or anti-spyware program, but it CAN tell you pretty much anything about your machine and system.

Thanks for the website. When i downloaded it and tryed it on my own computer, it said it couldnt get the information. I made sure to download the vista version and i dont understand what is happening. do i need to buy a nicer version or what. Helpp. Thanks should i try cain and able or is their another recovery system you recomend

 

As far as I know, there is no way to recover an Admin user account password. However, resetting it is quite simple. Even though it really doesn't matter, I'm curious as to why you don't want to reset it. To me it sounds like someone has the admin password and would notice if you reset it. If you set the password yourself but forgot it, you should have no problem with wiping it out and setting a new one, then writing it down someplace so you don't forget it again. Since I'm the suspicious type, I'm not going to offer any assistance in getting past someone else's password, but I will say "Good luck!"

 

Actually, ophcrack has worked for me very well in the past when I needed to recover my passwords for XP. I have yet to try the Vista version, though my Wife's laptop is just waiting for me to try it.

 

Don't be scared to download Hirens boot cd and try that !
