i just bought a Compaq C751NR laptop with vista home professional on it. now seeing as i can't stand vista at all, i wanted to reformat and start clean with XP. however, when i pop in my XP disk and go to erase the vista partition, XP says it can't find my hard drive. any thoughts or advice on this? can it even be done? i was thinking that maybe i had to go find the driver for my hard drive and have XP use it, but i don't have a floppy drive on this thing.so any advice would be great. thanks in advance.

Before you wipe anything, you do need to see if there are drivers for it. If you can't find drivers, then installing XP will be very painful (no sound, broken video, etc.)

it can be done but maybe you have a sata HDD? I did on my HP lappy and needed to disable "native sata" in order for the XP boot cd to detect my HDD... I used DBAN to kill all partitions and start again with XP. But very important you download ALL your drivers before doing this
