Windows Vista to Windows 7

Currently have windows vista on my laptop but now want windows 7

Im enrolled in a basic computer class for my community college and with this enrollment I get to download all sorts of software for free including windows 7


I downloaded windows 7 and transferred it to a dvd and now want to replace vista with 7 but i need some help

First will i have to backup all my files because i have a lot of music and quite of few movies and multiple different programs or is there an easier way?

Would Carbonite be easier as they do their thing everytime you start up you unit? Just a thought, .

 

I have no idea how to start a new thread so I will ask my question here and get yelled at until some one tells me how to do it correctly instead of complaining about my ignorance


I have a laptop with vista on it
something died on it now its a blank screen and then I restart it and it cycles the boot process right after the dell logo and restarts and does it again
same result in safemode
Can I buy windows 7 and put the disk in and and let it install and not loose data?
