Windows Vista Update Problem

Today my computer started downloading and installing 3 updates, it got to the point where it is installing the 3rd one and it just sits there at 0% for a few minutes, then the screen changes to 'Shutting Down' and it restarts the computer and the process repeats.

I've tried starting it up in safe mode but it doesn't even boot that up. What can i do to fix this and get back onto my computer.

My computer is a gateway notebook (i forget the exact model)

Any help will be much appreciated.
