windows vista wont restore my files.

My sisters HP laptop started playing up by turning off after the windows loading screen,not allowing a system restore or booting into safe mode.

I chose the option to use the HP total care to back up her files on a usb drive and then return to factory condition.

I backed up her files and got the laptop back to factory condition,but for some reason when i try to restore the files it recognises the usb drive but when i click next it says windows was unable to find any backup sets on D;\.

If i look at the usb drive on my laptop there is a file called MINWINPC with backup files.
Sorry if its a bit long winded but i have been helped on here before and am stuck.

Just for reference i have deleted the system recovery file containing the RestoreWiz.lgg and RestoreWiz.smf files.
The restore process has now started and i believe it can take up to 6hrs so i will see in the morning.
