windows vista

I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about computers, so I have a question. I'm thinking about buying a new computer that has windows vista installed, now is my older games and programs gonna work on that system? And vista really that much better that xp?

 

Some software will run with Vista, some won't, and some software will have Vista patches for download. I'm not super familiar with Vista yet, but this early in Vista's life, I think it's pretty much hit or miss. I could be wrong tho'.. maybe someone else will post and shed more light on this for you...

I have NeverWinter Nights running on mine with no problems. Most of the incompatible talk is pretty much Fud, and that is all. Vista is starting to grow on me, and is pretty much a glossed up XP with some great extras.

 

Your old games should work on vista. As for some programs especially the smaller ones you might run into problems. For example some programs i must Right click them and press run as an administrator. I am for the most part happy with vista and it would be cheaper to get it now rather than buy it later.

 

Not true, the internal core components have changed greatly, maybe not something you may see, but as far developers and such its a different beast. A lot of security and internal apps have changed.

When I did my upgrade there was only 2 programs that were incompatible, Nero 6, and a old version of cad as well. Nero 7 is vista compatible i believe though.
