    Please Help

    I have been trying to install "Index Dat Suite" but windows vista will not let it install. I tried to install the program (3) times, the first 2 times it just would not let it download all the way, the third time it said the program was missing components. I also tried to download and install "Index Dat Analyzer" also but the same problems occurred.

    If anybody know how i can get this installed on Windows Vista please let me know ASAP. Thanks So Much.

    Hi

    Which suite are you trying to install as many have same name, if its this one and I use this in Vista it does not install but runs as a standalone app http://www.majorgeeks.com/Index.dat_Suite_d4280.html

    You may need to be admin when installing, or in the case of some apps right click the installer and choose Run as Admin to get them to install ok, but if you are receiving errors as components missing please tell us what the full error messages are?


    Index Dat Analyzer is not Vista compatible, it may install but will not run as OS not supported.

    This is the message it displays " Component comdlg32.ocx or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered, a file is missing or invalid."

    It states this message each time i try to download Index Dat Suite.

    Hi

    Ok this is happening when downloading and not installing? can you download any other software ok?

    If your downloading this and instead of Save your clicking Run, then save the software to your HD then run it, dont run direct from the download, its likely not to work.


    also if that OCX is not registered correctly then try this to re-register it, click
    Start and in the Start Search box type RUN and hit enter, in the Open Run boc copy the below and hit OK

    RegSvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

    I can download and install other software with no problem. I tried to download the software again with saving it to my harddrive, it took me to a page that listed the item that i was trying to install along with the update guides, EULA and some other items.

    I then went to my search box and put Run enter, then put in RegSvr C:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx then hit enter. It returned a message that stated. " This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this operation, create an association in the set association control panel". Thanks

    Can you link to what your downloading as I cannot re-create the errors your getting? as the application your trying may not be Vista compatible.


    if you typed the bold bit above then you will get an error, the command needs to be verbatim to work in registering the ocx.

    RegSvr32 c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

    Hi Halo, First of all Thanks for all of your Help.

    This is the latest, I typed the following in the search box "RegSvr32c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx"

    I received this message "RegSvr32c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specific module could not be found.

    I have downloaded and installed CrapCleaner with no problem, i think for some reason Index Dat Suite is just not compatiable.

    Can you think of anything else that might help.

    Hi

    Just check this for me goto Windows\System32 folder and look for comdlg32.ocx is it in there?

    If not possible we need to install VB6 Runtime files, but another cause can be your security applications blocking the app, so disconect from internet and turn off your security apps and try running the app again ( if your trying the one I linked to earlier then it is Vista compatible as i have run it on many occasions in vista ) if its not that app then download and try that one as its very good.

    comdlg32 is in there "DLL File"
    comdlg32.ocx is not there
    the closest file with ocx is "comctl32.ocx"
