Hi, This is Chip and I am new to MajorGeeks and new to the VPN world. Our company just recently made the switch to a CISCO firewall and our own internet connection so that we can VPN into our network and that seems to work fine. The clients are set as clients using the Windows XP VPN Wizard and all seems to work fine there EXCEPT that the the XP client when connected to the VPN connectionthey are unable to get their own Internet on their computer. It is as if it is tring to use the VPN connection when it is connected to get the internet to the XP clinet. Now when the person disconnects from the VPN connection the XP computer works fine and gets Internet like it should.

Is this the way the VPN connection works as the client only uses the VPN (when connected) for all outgoing traffic? Or is there a setting in windows to let the Internet connection stay on the LAN connection and let anything else be sent to the VPN connection?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and as always, THANKS IN ADVACE!!!!
    Chip

I think Port 1723 needs to be open on Corporate Fire walls to allow VPN.

Well the VPN does work into our network, our problem is that when the remote computer logs onto the VPN it then blocks them from getting to the internet on their (remote) computer while the Windows VPN is connected to our network. The VPN works fine during this time accessing the files and such on our network, it is just if that remote computer needs to access the internet while its VPN is connected it does not allow the internet work until that VPN connection is closed.

hi there, sorry about the late response but I may have a solution.

I was looking through my notes and came upon this:

"If cant access net when using VPN, go into network connections, right click VPN connection, select properties. Choose the networking tab, go into internet protocol properties, select advanced, general tab, clear use default gateway on remote network."

I know it isn't very clear, but I don't have a VPN connection myself to test it with and clear it up. Hopefully it can help you.
