I cannot log on to my computer without using safe mode. Alternatively, I can't log on with safe mode w/ networking, which is strange.

Anywho, I get to the windows welcome screen, and before I can click on my profile icon, I get a blank error message. There is nothing on there, but it made the error sound, and all it says is Yes or No, and either one I click on logs in to windows for a second, just long enough to see my wall paper, then goes back to the welcome screen.

Can anyone help? This is SO annoying and I really need to get my main comp back running.

    Operating system?

Did you do anything to start the problem? New software? Hardware?

    windows xp Home

and right as I restarted it before it happened, I installed PowerISO

Might that be the culprit? Thats what I thought as well, so I uninstalled it, still no dice.

    See how this goes>

To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
    1. Start your computer.
    2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
    3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
    4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

    Any good?

I already tried last known good. No dice.

If I can't get it soon I am going to have to reformat, but I don't wanna do that =(

Only other thing I can think of is to try a repair installation. Basically reloading XP over the top of itself.

Insert the xp cd, boot up, follow the screens to the repair option, not the recovery consol.

Make sure you repair not format.

again, tried it. The installer gets stuck @ 34 minutes, about 3/4ths percent of installing. Seems like this thing is asking for a reformat.
