Yesterday my computer was working fine, i shut down my PC and the next day windows would not boot. I get to the Asus splash screen with BIOS and boot options, and then it boots etc. but then it always asks me to use one of the following options to boot into windows:

    Boot windows normally
    safe mode
    safe mode with networking
safe mode with remote access and command prompt
    last known good configuration

But regardless of what I select the system tries to boot into windows (the windows symbol and the loading bar appears) and then the good old blue screen of death flashes with some unreadable with writing(flashes to quickly to make it out). This happens with everything, safe mode, safe mode command prompt. As stated above my laptop is an Asus and has its own Asus branded windows recovery cd's to fix this... however it will only wipe the current partitions and data off the hard drive and not repair them at all. I dont mind reformatting, but this will mean refformatting and I have over 60gb of important data, pictures, games etc. that i cant afford to lose. If there is a way to repair or some way of backing up the data on the hard drive and then reformatting then that would be great, but reformatting and losing this data would be THE last resort. If their is any sort of bios software i can use to grab the data off the hdd that would be great. Also the Asus laptop come with its own "Instant On" software that lets you watch videos, photos and play music, and i have gone throught this and i can listen to my music and see the files there, i just cant grab them.

When the BSOD flashes, can you hit pause so you can read what is on the screen? It would help if you could see the stop error and the first number like 0x000000## where ## is either two numbers or a letter and a number.

Right when you power up the PC, start pressing F8. You should eventually get the Advanced Startup Options menu. On this menu, select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and proceed to boot up. The PC should stop at the blue screen error so you can write down the error number (it should be something like 0x0000007F). If a file name and/or error message is listed, write that down also. Then post all that info here, and we'll try to help.
