My computer froze and when I try to reboot, I get as far as the Windows logo screen then the blue screen of death appears!!!! this then goes off as quickly as it appeared and starts to reboot again. Every now and then I get to the options of safe mode etc etc whenever I try to click on any of these options the blue screen of death flickers on then off and goes back to reboot again!.

Any one know why I can not get into my computer? need help fast as I need to retrieve some important stuff thats on it.

run the repair on windows xp. unless your problem is when booting 98 in that case. reinstall or do away with it entirely. if you can catch the whole error message before it reboots you can look it up on MSKB

This is the error I am now receiving

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any window updates you might need. If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restart your computer press f8 to select advanced start up options and then select safe mode.

have you tried booting with the last known good configuration. when windows is booting press F8 before it begins to load to get to the startup screen that offers safe mode and so on. just above where it says to start windows normally there will be an option for last known good. use that.

can you tap F8 at boot up and then log in when you choose safe mode? if so back up everything there then you might just have to reformat & reinstall!
