Hey everyone, I have been to countless forums trying to resolve this issue which is: When I try to download anything from the web using IE the download box apprears for about 1 second then its gone. It does this everytime. On certain sites I am able to right click and use the "save as" option. I was going to try and re-install IE, but the same thing happens when I try and click the download link on that site.
Also I have tryed clicking Tools, and then clicking pop up blocker--but its not there! This problem has brought me to a stand still. I hope to get some real help!

Here is a log file from hijackthis:

  2. have you tried using firefox?
you may want to switch to that since most people like it more.
as for logs, i dont check them.
BUT, i do know that O6 are add-ons for IE and you dont appear to have any.
    thats a good thing.

Open IE and go to Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom Level. Set the security settings to Medium Level and then click on Reset. Close out by
    clicking on OK.

@ neighberaaron...while your willingness to assist is appreciated it is requested that you please not take any offers of support/assistance outside of the forum. This is not only for your protection and the member that needs assistance, but ours.

Additionally, please try to stay on topic in threads in the support forum. The poster in this thread needs to fix their Internet Explorer so suggesting a different browser be used will in no way resolve the issue with fixing IE.

Thank you for understanding our position!:)

  6. 1) what OS are you running? XP, 98, ect...
    2) Click [Start] [Run] and type sfc /scannow in the [Open] box.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)
    3) if that doesnt work, you can check for errors.
    go to start>settings>control pannel>administrative tools>event viewer.
then look for any errors in any of the sections.
    post back what you find.

Due to some major problems in the past with some members and editing of their posts there is now a 10 minute time limit for editing. This allows adequate time to fix any typos, add additional info to the post, etc. :)

LOL...and now you edited out the portion of your original post I quoted. Although what you edited out wasn't bad advice or a personal attack on a member that you were trying to cover up and say you never said/did you succeeded in making my point for me...so Thank you!:) *cracking up* Welcome to MajorGeeks!http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/star-n-abby/smilies/beertoast.gif

Following Matacumbie's suggestion ....when you click on custom level ...check that under downloads you have both automatic prompting for down loads enabled as well as file downloads enabled.

I did the scannow thing, it took about 10 minutes, then window went away without any notification as to what it found, so I guess all went well.
I also ran the error check it came up with alot....Should I post in here? Its quite long.

Yes, you will need to insert your XP installation disc. If it doesn't include SP2, then you will need to get a CD that does. They can be purchased from Microsoft for a minimal fee.
