Windows Won't Boot

Well, I'm not sure what's going on here. The last things I did before shutting down my computer before work this morning where tell avast to run a boot time scan, and install windows updates + shutdown. When I returned home and tried to boot, I get nothing... The boot up process stops right about the time you should see windows starting. All I see is a blinking white dot! I ran a Windows Repair install, which gave me no results. I ran chkdsk from the recovery console, which said it found several errors but not whether or not they where repaired. Any ideas? This sucks!

 

Reads like setting a boot time scan during the setup of a mammoth Windows Update session wasn't the right thing to do.

If the attempted Repair install didn't dump all your old Restore Points and assuming you're running XP, you could try this method of starting System Restore from the Recovery Console - check it out carefully first, I've never tried this.
