Windows xp administrator account

hi

I have windows xp pro installed on my pc which was put on a long time ago, my dad set up the pc and now we cannot remember the password we selected for the administrator account, is their anyway to change this or reset it?

Hi there yes try rebooting the computer and hold the f12 key it should give you the prompt start in safemode then when the login screen appears you should have the icon administrator it should log you without a password you can then go to user accounts and delete the account or password.

Failing this there is some software called locksmith which if you download it and burn it to disc you can boot from it and remove all passwords.!

 

Actually, when you reboot you'll press the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows boot options menu comes up, then select Safe Mode. The program mentioned above (Locksmith) isn't free... I think it's $49.00 and designed primarily for Windows NT and Windows 2000, but should work with XP. If safe mode doesn't work (you'll have to go into User Accounts), post again, and we'll go from there.
