windows xp backup using Western Digital My Book

What you are after if I judge your post is basic document backups of specific folder locations to the My Book, the WD MY Book comes with backup software of its own to allow you to set scheduled backups of docs, pics etc

And yes the one in the Valueadd folder of your XP Home CD, works well too... just without the function of ASR which is for XP Pro, but for basic backups of the folders you want then its fine, some instructions on this for you too http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/bott_03july14.mspx
