Everytime I boot to win xp, the clock is 5.5 hrs off
The time zone is right, I have restarted the services & yet the issue persists.
When I boot on to my ubuntu distro, it is Fine.
Currently, To set the time right, I right click on the clock, go to adjust date & time, pick internet time & click on update now, the time syncs in a few minutes.
(that checkbox is checked to automatically sync time)

    What do I do now?

Sometimes a sign of a battery going weak.

Uncheck the Automatically Sync with an internet time server.and adjust it your self

The internet time server is normally wrong it don't matter what time zone your in.

What! time.windows.com is spot on, always. I reckon it must be a battery problem, though if your Ubuntu is installed rather than a live CD that would knock that on the head.

I have not found internet time clock gives me any problems, as hrlow2 says sounds like battery --cmos battery- is low if you ahve a laptop, sometimes they can be changed, when they have a seoperate plug attatachment ,but many were soldered in. On a pc, they are usually a small coin size 3v, or, therabout, and can be changed quite easily

    Beep

Pacific (US&Canada) would be mine i think on the east cost of the us.

And on top of this i don't see any thing in the list to set it too any thing on the east cost so it would be wrong for me any way i really don't see any thing that list that match's on the East Cost unless you want to point it out for me.And i thinking ultimo all so might be on the east cost too.

Do I have this right? If you sync with time.windows.com your time is correct, but while the comp is off it always reverts to exactly 5½ hrs slow?

I live on the East coast and have no problem on my XP machine.
Time Zone setting is (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

East coast of US here and I have no problems either.

Double click on the time in the tray. When the clock comes up, click on the Internet Time tab.
    a) What server is listed?
    b) When was the clock last synced and when is it scheduled for the next synchronization?

If you are not connected to the internet, this will not happen. You can turn off this "service" by unchecking/unticking the box in front of Automatically synchronize with a time server.

i turn off both settings and edit it my self.

    a) There has been only one Option.
    b) The clock was last synced when I clicked on update time,
The next sync time is always random minutes or even hours away at times.
after it is synced once, it does not show the next sync time.

Can you clarify whether you are talking here about booting to a live CD or to an installed version? If it's a live CD it's not relevant, as it doesn't remember the time and checks it every time it boots, but an installed version relies on the system clock, as does XP, so should exhibit the same behaviour.

Also, have you checked the time in the BIOS? How is that behaving?

And it may help us if you state what time zone you have selected in XP. I ask this because nearly all time zones are 1 hour different from their neighbours, but I know of one that is half an hour different - India west coast (Mumbai)

hey, I think you answered your own question about live cd.
Its not a live cd on ubuntu, its installed on a partition.
As the Time is fine on ubuntu, it cant be a live cd now, can it ;) ?
However thank you for taking your time & writing such a long post :)

bout the time zone, its IST.

I would expect a live CD always to show the correct time as it checks it when booting and doesn't use the system time.

IST can be Israel (UTC + 2 hrs) or India (UTC + 5 hrs 30 min). Sounds like we're getting close ;) Your system clock is reverting to GMT (London), so how about answering the question about your BIOS time?

    oooooh!
Now I get the live cd thing,

Whoopsie daisies... I totally forgot bout the BIOS time thing, rebooting frm ubuntu by tapping the delete key...

Man, you fixed it! The bios time was 5.5hrs Off!
    Thank you so much!

Mods, mark this solved (if thts done here) & lock this thread please! :) (if tht too is done here)

Haha! I live in UK and it just so happens I holiday in Goa every winter. Always struck me as odd that Goa was 5:30 ahead, not 5:00 or 6:00, and when I saw your post it just seemed there must be a connection there somewhere.

    Pleased it's fixed anyway :-D
