I sure hope you guys can help me out I have been fighting this problem for a long time. It started off with explorer crashing whenever I use the search function. It does it almost immediately after clicking search sometimes it waits till I type something in other times it doesnt. I get an error report which I send to Microsoft and usually the second time I can search just fine occasionally it does it 2-3 times before I can search. Now another problem seems to pop up which I believe is related. Upon restarting windows once it gets to the click the user screen to login it locks up there also. Once I click the user it plays my startup music and sits there. Usually restarting it clears that problem up but I have to restart it by turning off the computer and back on. Occasionally I have to restart 2-3 times. I have run hijack this analyzed using various resources on the web and eliminated the most obvious spyware programs. I have installed spywareblaster and have been using spybot sd. I am running a AMD 64 3200 with 1 gb of ram and an ati 9800 pro 256mb. I am running windows xp. I hope someone can help me with this. I will be glad to provide any additional information u require. Thank u for any help..

Have you tried an alterantove browser -- like firefox? That would help decide if it were IE specific or a system problem.

Well, if thats explorer.exe, no new browser is going to help much, that is the Windows shell.

Does this problem happen in Safe Mode?

Cant get windows to boot in safe mode. I hit and hold F8 like a million times and it wont give me the option of it. Not sure if this is related..

Also, it sounds like you have had Spybot for awhile. Make sure you have the new version here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2471 and check for available updates.

Run it again and see if it locates anything, especially CoolWWWSearch.XPlugin

Suggest running these three, they seem to do the job completely when used together.
Spybot S/D 1.3 (As Mata+ noted, make certain you have 1.3)
    Ad-Aware Resonal Edition
AVG Anti Virus (Use this rather than other anti virus)

Update and run all. Don't forget to immunize w/spybot when done cleaning.

Run ALL three App's mentioned in earlier memo. You will stay clean more than likely.
