    Hi guys,
This has been baffeling me over the past 2 days,
For some reason (out of the blue), to view the desktop, I have to turn the computer on, log in, wait for the OS to show the background (no start menu or desktop items will show), then press ctrl/alt/del and log off, but, i have to click log off twice!!!! Then, when i log in the second time, everything is there?? The only thing I had done was use registry mechanic (which i dont recommend cus it deleted some important files for FarCry and music software).
Any ideas? its a tough one.
    thanks heaps..

Hope you made a backup of your registry before you ran Registry Mechanic.

You can try running a repair from the windows xp cd!

If this is a standalone machine then I don't expect there are any login scripts running like it would in a work environment with a DC, but still it is obvious that either a startup entry in the registry or an *.ini file possibly causing it.
Profile corruption is possible too, but to be able to analyze the issue a bit better, I'd suggest you boot in 'Safe Mode' and login as that same account causing the problem to see if you can replicate the problem.
