Windows XP Error installing SP 3

SERVICE PACK 3 SETUP ERROR

THE FILE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ACPISYS IS OPEN OR IN USE BY ANOTHER APPLICATION'
PLEASE CLOSE ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS AND THEN CLICK RETRY.

ERROR SIGNATURE

EVENT TYPE: UPDATE CANCELED P1 WINDOWS XP2:SP2
PC SERVICE PACK 3 P4 UPDATE CANCELED.

END OF REPORT.

I DID THAT, EVEN CLOSED ALL MY SECURITY SOFTWARE AND UPDATE ENTRIES IN THE PROSCESS WINDOW.
THAT DID NOT WORK EITHER. TRIED MICROSOFT TO NO AVAIL. THEY WANTED $99.00 FOR ADVANCED SUPPORT. CAN'T HANDLE THAT. TRIED INSTALLING FROM SAFE MODE. I TRIED TO IGNOR THE PROBLEM BUT, THERE IS SO MUCH SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE THAT REQUIRES SP3 I'VE GOT TO DO SOMETHING.

How are you installing SP3 - from Windows Update, or from the downloaded service pack?

Do you have anything else running while installing the service pack? I mean anything?

P.S. please don't post in all CAPS; it is very hard to read!

Tried installing both ways many times.
Absolutely nothing is running when I get the error.

I have to ask you some additional questions...

1. is the file name really ACPISYS or is it acpi.sys ?
2. can you find that file running in Services (from Control Panel | Administrative Tasks) ?
3. can you find that file running in Task Manager (Processes tab) ?

 

I just checked. The file is ACPI.SYS.
It is not running is services as acpi.sys, but it may be running as something else. Can I do a print screen and copy to paint and attach my services list and attach it and include it in a reply so you can look at it?
It is not running in task manager as acpi.sys either, also can I attach a pic of task manager so you can look at it also?

ps: I will try to attach pics of Services and Task Mgr.
ok I tried but the bmp files are too big to attach. Do you have any suggestions. All the files were 2.81MB

So it is crashing after a bit when you try to run sertin program's?

Are you getting multi codes or just the one.ACPI.SYS would be part of a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA do you have a PATA HDD or a SATA setup.

 

Just getting the aspi.sys error that it is being used by another application as I stated in my thread. I am curently waiting on a reply to my logs in the malware forum.
If you have any suggestions I would apprieciate them.
