Windows XP Explorer.exe

    I have a problem with my windows explorer. Any time I open it and right click on a file the following error message appears and explorer closed down. This same error comes up when I try and use Power Desk.

    AppName: explorer.exe
    AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512
    ModName: kernel32.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5781
    Offset: 0000d00d


    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this error. Can't do much without this program functioning.

    Powerdesk 6 or 7? free or pro?

    Download ShellExView
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

    then run it and disable every right click extension that is not Microsoft.

    Now open explorer and right click a file. It should work without erroring. If it does, you know that one of the 3rd party extensions broke explorer.

    You can run ShellExView again and start enabling one at a time until you discover what breaks your right click menu.

    Thanks all for your help. I was able to disable the culprit. The following powerdesk items were causing the problem:

    PowerDesk ZIP Extension Context Menu PowerDesk Shell

    PowerDesk ZIP Extension Drag & Drop Handler PowerDesk Shell Extension

    Once I diasbled these I was able to right click in explorer and in Powerdesk. Not sure why powerdesk would effect itself, but for now I will trudge on.

    Ah, at least you were able to figure out pretty fast what caused the hiccups. Thanks for letting us know; it not only helps you but anyone else with the same problem that might stumble across this thread.
