windows xp fax

I tried to add windows fax (from add/remove programs, windows components) and it said I had to put the sp2 cd in, so I did, and it can't find fxsclnt.exe. Can I download this file from somewhere?

 

Hey thanks Kuala, I just opened it and it works! Could you tell me where this thing was supposed to be in my system files? Right now the icon is on my desktop and I'd like to move it to where it's supposed to be.Thanks again.

 

Kaula, thanks. Now it is asking for fxscover.exe and I can't find it. Would you mind if I downloaded that one too, as my files seem to messed up. Thanks.

 

OK Thanks Kaula I got it working now. So do you absolutely have to buy a fax machine to use this or is there a way to send computer documents thru the pc modem as a fax?

 

You can send electronic documents to a fax recipient. They can send you items, as well. But it HAS to be over an analog modem and a regular phone line.

If you are going to be doing a lot of faxing, save yourself some stress and go buy a cheap fax machine.

 

I have Sympatico Basic Lite DSL, and I have a separate internal modem. I already tried to test the windows fax service but it says it can't get a dial tone when I tried to send a fax. How do you set this thing up? Also, now I can't get the windows fax service to STOP. It keeps trying to send that fax that won't send because it can't get a dial tone.

 

Sympatico is DSL, right?

Your modem has to dial a phone number. If it says No Dial Tone, then I'd have to wonder if your modem is working at all.

Do a modem diagnostic. Go to Control Panel, Modems, select your modem then go to advanced.

There should be a tab there with the diagnostic.

Currently my XP computer isn't working, so i can't give the precise path.

I just phoned Bell and apparently all that needs to be done is to connect the CPU internal modem directly to a phone jack. So I did and now it works great! And all this time I never knew XP HAD a fax machine in it. Wonderful! All I need now is a Scanner....or do I?
