Windows xp formatting issue, please help.

Hi, everyone

Recently i bought a computer to play around on. It has SP1 and i formatted it with a SP3 os disk. When formatting it tells me that i cant find driver.cab, netsetup.exe and ntprint.inf. With this problem i werent able to go in windows because i had formatted it so now i reformatted with a SP1 disk and it work. I then installed SP2 and SP3. I formatted again and same files missing and when it brought me to the windows setup screen it told me " asms on windows xp prof service pack 2 cd is needed". Im very confused. Do you need to format with a sp2 disk. meaning when you have sp1 format with sp1 disk then install sp2 then format with sp2 and so on. Please someone help and thank you for taking your time to read and comment.

 

Hi CFC, No you shoudn't have to install SP1 then SP2 then SP3.

If you can format and install XP with an SP1 install disc, do that again and just go to Microsoft updates and get SP3 with all the other updates you will have to get anyway and keep that set-up, it is exactly the same as using the SP3 disc.

Edit: btw i suspect ther is something wrong with the SP3_XP install disc you have got, is it an original?... or one you have slipstreamed yourself?

Ya i did the installing of all the sp3 but when i format it says to insert sp2 os disk.
I dont know how to slipstream, i bought the disk from a computer store its a copied verison.

 

Once you have got SP3 installed DONT FORMAT! the job is done at that point.

And if you bought a "copied version" it is probably illegal, which means no more advice from me im afraid, other than to buy a legit copy of windows.
