    Hi all,
I'm running XP pro on a MSI k8n neo platinum nforce3 socket 754 mobo w/ dual IDE 160gb maxtors on the nforce raid. Since i've installed windows xp 64 and windows xp pro, both have had the same issue. When my computer boots and hits the windows screen with the scrolling bar, it pauses half way to being lit up and starting the scrolling of the blue bar. It sits at this stage with no apparent activity for about 10 minutes, then lights up and goes on and starts regularly. Does anyone know what this issue is and how i can fix it?
    Help is much appreciated, thanks.

I had the same problem with my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum after I built it. After some research I found out there was a problem with nforce2 and nforce4s and usb. I disconnected all my usb except my keyboard and it booted good. My problem was my printer which I don't use very much so I just leave it unplugged and plug it in the front when I need it. Maybe it is a problem with the nforce3 as well.

you might want to want to try a checkdisk on your boot drive. when my hardrive had problems it would do the same thing. ( I ended up replacing the drive)

    worth a shot.

I think you get some defragment files.
You setup raid at the best performing of HDD, or not.

Can Windows XP64 and Windows XP co-exist together? Just a thought. Maybe something is clashing between the 2, causing the slow start. Ignore me if they can co-exist. Bazza

a verry interesting idea. but I think if you run windows X64, it can support 32bit softs, at a moment X64 login windows lower WinXp SP2, so I think I should cheat computer system.

Try Process Explorer v 9.12 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4566This will tell you what is running, after you startup unfortunately. Another tip might be to logon selecting the bootlog.txt option where a logfile is written out as everything starts. BootLog Analyser wll analyse that file and show how long every process takes at startup. It can be sorted in various ways. Do google searches on BootLogAnalyser, Boot Log Analyser and Bootlog-xp to get a version for your OS. Try each variation for different results.

Another idea is to do a step-by-step confirmation, on bootup, that will cycle through your bootup and you will soon see what process crashes, or takes a long time. I haven't tried this in XP, though.

Could be. It could depend on what OS you are using. I use BootLogAnalyser in W98SE. I haven't had to use one in XP, as yet. Bazza

I had a look at bootvis. It is supposed to cut XP startup time to around 30-35 seconds.

Process Explorer will tell you all that is running and how many CPU cycles they take, after you bootup.

BLA (BootLogAnalyser), or its' equivalent, will tell you how long each process takes on bootup, once you have created a bootlog.txt

    Hope this clarifies all. Bazza

What bios version do you have? It appears that bios version 1.5 has updates for your nvraid. Though, the latest revision is 1.7:

    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=572&kind=1

If these are fairly new installs, then I'd flash the bios to the latest version, then re-install (though you may not have to reinstall). See what happens.

Also, if you have already got the latest version, just ignore everything I have typed! :)
