Windows xp home sp2 (system restore problem)

Hello majorgeeks. I've had this problem with my pc constantly freezing up and recently my internet connection went limited for some reason (when i try to look up the status of my internet connection it shows my physical address, ip adress, subnet mask and nothing beyond that point and i don't know where the problem is. So yesterday i tried using system restore but my pc froze in the middle of the restoration process so i rebooted my pc and now when i go to system restore's calendar it's all empty, not one day even exists on there. Also some functions like "search" don't work. Can i do something to fix this? Can i repair windows somehow?(i do have the windows cd).
