Windows XP how to remove:::

Hi, help me about my problem. I have 2 partitions 1 is installed with windows 7 and another 1 is XP, I used Windows 7 and format the Drive D. After that Earlier Version of Windows is still in Boot Manager, is there a way to remove it? without formatting all partitions? thank you.. And also What MBR(Master Boot Record) Means? If i rebuild it with Partition Wizard can it be fix and remove XP? or it could damage my OS(7)?rolleyes

The option/entry to boot from XP is not part of the MBR, so rebuilding the MBR will not remove that entry.

If I understand correctly, you had XP on partition D: and formatted that partition so that you no longer have XP installed and want to remove it from showing up in the list when you boot up. If XP no longer exists then you can try the following to remove it from the boot manager.

Go to Start and type in msconfig in the search box and hit <enter>.
In the window that opens under the boot tab it should list both Win7 and XP. You can highlight XP and then hit the delete button. That will remove the choice of XP when starting up.

 

I already did that but XP is not listed there

 

The BCD is the replacement boot loader for the old boot.ini in XP. You may have to edit the BCD manually to remove that entry.

Go to Start and type cmd in the search box but don't hit <enter>. When "cmd.exe" shows up in the search results, right-click it and select Run as Administrator. In the command window type bcdedit /enum all and hit <enter> and then copy and paste the results here. I want to see if there is an entry for XP there. Then we will know that is where the XP entry is coming from.
