    Hi guys,
I was trying to reinstall windows xp home in my desktop computer. I booted from the cd, then delete the old partition, then create a new partition, then format the new partion (quick format), then copying files, then it told me to remove the cd which i did & when it was rebooting i put back the boot from hardrive. then i let it boot normally it shows me the big sign windows, then it tells me "booting is being restarted" then the screen goes black. what do you think it is? Please i need some help !

    Thank you

    Greetings, virusfighter...

You might try the entire process again, but this time bite the bullet and go with the full format, especially if this is a reinstall...

Also, make sure only the bare essentials are plugged into the machine, and (if possible) no USB devices...

Hello virusfighter: try leaving the cd in through the entire reload process. windows uses the cd after the reboot.

If unimatrix001's suggestion doesn't pan out, then a couple of quick questions:

If this is an OEM computer, what's the exact make and model # (please include any Service Tag #s)? If this is a custom build, do you have any information regarding the hardware (specifically motherboard and hard drive)? I'm looking for the possibility of having to load SATA drivers...

You stated you're 'reinstalling' - is this the first reinstallation of Windows? Are you using a hologrammed Windows XP disk, or is this an OEM recovery disk?

leave the bios set to boot from cdrom. if you dont press a key it will default to the harddrive. If it says hard drive failure I would probably replace the harddrive. Of course i would try some of the free software that comes with the hd and see if there is anything wrong with the drive. Seagate maxtor and western digital drives come with a cdrom of tools to check the drive.

    Hi unimatrix001,
Where can i find the cdroms for these hardrives, from their website ? could the problem be a RAM memory problem ?

Thanks so much for help so far!
