Windows XP Installation Problem

Hi,

I have bought a new laptop on which I want to load XP Pro from OEM disk. Idea was to format the drive and load everything afresh. I deleted the partition and now have C and D.

I can't format C as it sayd the volume needs to dismount but am not able to do it. Error come "Cannot lock the drive".

I tried booting from the XP CD but after a few screens the Blue Error screen pops up and says that Windows has been stopped due to some error.

Please help me in this as I need to have this laptop up and running to pursue something.

Urgent help will be highly appreciated.:cry

If your "new" laptop came with Vista then I would advise you to get familiar with that OS. You will probably have a hard time finding drivers, if at all, for that laptop if you want to use XP.

It didn't come with any OS but a pirated version of XP was loaded which I want to remove. Please help!

and some error says exactly what?
There are thousands of errors; if you want good help, you need to supply us with good information.
Rather than trying to format the drive, have you considered simply changing the windows serial from the pirated key to the one that came with the CD you purchased?

What kind of/make of laptop? That may help.
