I startup my computer i go to format my hard drive. All goes well. I partition my drive to NFTS (not quick version) from FAT32. I go to the DOS commands and type in the directory. It says "The program cannot be run in DOS". So I try to install it using the XP boot disc's. Then when its installing it says something about a SIF missing "value 0" and setup cannot continue. Press ENTER to reboot. How do i fix this?

All you have to do is boot from the XP CD, run thru setup. WinXP setup can partition and format your partitions for you, no need for DOS.

The weird thing is... I do boot from the CD. But it gives me a command prompt.

Does it say "Press any key to boot from CD..." and then a blue screen comes up saying "Windows Setup" ??

Something isnt right, get into the BIOS and be sure your CD-ROM drive is set to first boot. Reboot and it should boot from the CD, it should say "Press any key to boot from CD..." this is if your using a legit copy and official disc.

Yeah, it is set as the first boot device.
and um... lets just say that it isnt directly from microsoft. But i used Nero 6 to make it a boot disc.

Is it possible to run the setup under the command prompt?

You can't install WinXP from DOS, it needs to be a official disc. This is most likely your problem.
