I have an issue with my wifes Dell XP PC, here goes, when she opens up IE 8 and goes to her Yahoo email and tries to download a FLV file, the dialogue box opens for a split sec then disappears and she is not able to open , download or find the .FLV file. If we use Firefox, Chrome etc.. there are no issues, so I tried to download other files from the email in yahoo like a doc, or a WMV and there is no issues in downloading those, seems to only be a .FLV file so far, I have checked the folder options and it is checked mark to open this file. I am stumped any help would be greatly appreciated :cool

PS. If I posted this in the incorrect section please move to where it should be thanks in advance

I know this isn't a direct solution to the issue you're having with IE 8 but why not just use Firefox or Chrome since the problem does not occur with them?

Do you know where I could find a .flv file to try a test using IE 8? I have a Yahoo email account and would try it if I had an .flv file for testing purpose.

I do use FF but the IE is being used by the wife and see won't use any other browser, but I do have Chrome set up for her in case she does need to download something that cannot be download on IE, as for IE it is not an issue on IE in particular it is an issue with IE on this PC, it works fine to download on all of my other 4 PC's with IE with no issues. :(

PS sorry I didn't respond sooner I was away on business

Well I now know it is not an issue with my PC, as this issue happened at the home PC also, seems to be an issue with IE and Yahoo messenger on certain files when downloading, and does not always do it

I've seen similar issues with 8, seems to be related to the add-ons.

Goto tools, then manage addons. The only ones I leave on are Java, Adobe shockwave, XML document, media player, and Spybot. Disable everything else.

Then under accelerators, I have them all disabled.

I also have smart screen filter turned off and leave in private filtering unchecked.

Thanks Brand, yes it was an add on, it was a Lavasoft add on, I solved it yesterday when I contacted Microsoft in there forums and they told me to check the add ons, that one might be conflicting, thus the reason why I don't use IE, LOL. So I went by process of elimination started with AV proggies then went to ad ware and voila, thanks for your response ;)
