Hi... i'm new here. My computer or windows would now log me off automatically. I originally thought it was the power switch/button but it would log me off about 1 minute to 5 minutes after using the computer. Instead of just logging me off right away.

I did find a way to "stop it". I would open my web browser and open two tabs... so if windows was trying to shut it down... the browser would prompt me to save the pages before closing or cancel and return to what i'm doing and i would click cancel... but this would come up every now and then.

    anyone had this issue before?

When you use the term "log off", do you mean the computer completely powers off?

thanks for the replies.... haven't tried it in safe mode... because i just realize it is the switch... and by log of i mean power off... it is the switch cause the button doesn't stick out like it use to and it actually turned on by itself.

When a computer powers off by itself, it usually indicates there is a heat problem. The PC will shut off to protect the CPU.
You need to open up the case, used canned air to clear out dust and check that all fans are operating. If a fan stops spinning, the heat increases and the computer will power off.

Now you have both solutions in hand in this threads:

    - Software (Could be a virus)
    - Hardware (Could be a Fan)

Hope it's software, will be sad if hardware is.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Actually, this is more common a problem than most people realize...if it persists, you can always try cleaning the switch from the inside with contact cleaner (some cleaners will discolor plastic, so don't spray the front of the button/case), or try trimming any excess plastic that may be hanging...
