Ok, this may sound kind of weird but... I recently installed windows XP. I only have 256 megabytes of ram (mind you it's a 1ghz processor) and it runs really fast. Compared to my other computer which came with Windows XP and it has 512 mb of ram and a 2ghz processor.

I have almost as many processes running on my "slower" computer, but they both feel just as fast!

    Why is this?

Maybe its because of all the junk they put on the computer that came with it. They bundle a lot of software that makes your computer kind of lag a bit. While installing a fresh copy might just install the stuff you really need.

You're right, they did bundle a poop-load of software that's completely useless onto my computer when I bought it.

Yeah that'll slow things down a bit. You could probably just go into MSCONFIG and try shutting off some of the processes and uninstalling some unnecessary programs. But be careful and make sure to back up or create a restore point. Don't mess with anything you don't already know about or it will create a big mess which is what I'm going through right now lol. Just check the forums and it should have something on here to help your computer run a bit faster.
