OK, I did a search of forums, and could not find anything about this. I recently purchased a machine at auction that is running an AMD 2.x gig CPU with 512 of DDR and 2 20gig HDD's. My problem is that when I start up XP pro (surprise, we were told they were wiped, but I am not complaining) I do about 45 minutes or so of tweaking to get it where i want it. THen I go and shut down (until I get a better cooling system in there, I don't have a choice) and when I restart, I have to start all over agaoin, because it is defaulting back to hwere it was. WHen I shut down, it is still stating that it is saving all my info and such, but when I start back up, it is not there. I have to reset my net options, re-uninstall the proggies i took out that I have no use for, reinstall all my preipherals, restart my 2nd gfx card and 2nd monitor, etc. I have done everything I can think of and stumble across and to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Are you logged in as Administrator when you do these changes?

Here is the first one I found:
No Domain Controller is available for domain CLASNET due to the following:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. .
Make sure that the computer is connected to the network and try again. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Also got a few of these:
The time provider NtpClient was unable to find a domain controller to use as a time source. NtpClient will try again in 15 minutes.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    and:
The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    and:
The Upload Manager service failed to start due to the following error:
The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    Then:
The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server DNS/ns1.sunyocc.edu. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
    (0xc000005e)".

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    followed by:
The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server DNS/ns1.sunyocc.edu. No authentication protocol was available.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    and:
The system failed to update and remove pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for network adapter
    with settings:

    Adapter Name : {419B8FE1-CD86-41E5-922A-2F70DDCC2F41}
    Host Name : OCC35899
    Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : CLASNET.sunyocc.edu
    DNS server list :
    10.102.16.111, 10.102.16.11, 10.101.16.111, 10.101.16.11
Sent update to server : <?>
    IP Address : 10.1.1.1

The system could not remove these PTR RRs because the update request timed out while awaiting a response from the DNS server. This is probably because the DNS server authoritative for the zone that requires update is not running.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Hope this helps. I am working on removing the domain stuff.... and now of course, you know what auction I got it from..... if there are any OCC techs on here, someone didn't wipe properly it looks like, but to put your mind at ease, there are NO DOCUMENTS of any type on here at all.

I'd reply to this, but Fuzz beat me to it ....sweet.
Twould appear that it was part of a domain and therefore no system changes could be made .....if you can't get past this ....let us know.
In the mean time start / run / type "gpedit.msc" without qoutes and reset permissions.
    So, I quess I won't reply.  :)

OK, this is probably going to sound foolish, but I can not figure out how to reset the permissions here. I got the editor going and have looked though it repeatedly, but can not for the life of me locate it.

There is a ton of settings under group policy and you'd have to look at them all ...mostly the ones with security I would think ...however, if you've deleted the comain and set it as a workgroup, that may bypass the issue ...
tell me what happens if you go to start / run and type .....gpotool

Was just checking ...it's for a domain tool ....only other option I can think of is to do a clean install of xp .....the system was set with domain privileges and would be difficult at best to go through them all to reset.
Crap, Fuzz ...thought I was responding to the op ....my bad.

LOL.... Thanks guys, I appreciate all the info. If I had a copy of XP sitting around, I would have done a reinstall lomng ago. Guess I am gonna have to downgrade to Win2k though. Ah well. I can think of a lot worse things to have to do than that :)

(Will do that after I get some use out of office 2k3 though, since all I have is O2K)
