We're going to need a little background here...

To me, it sounds like you've got a new hard drive, and installed Windows on it, as well as set up your existing drive as slave...am I correct?

    Ahh!
So, you're using your new computer to browse the old hard drive, correct?

You will have to take ownership of the files, because your new computer's administrative account isn't the same as the old. Its a pain, but a sound security feature. Here's how to do it:

    1. Go to the Root (top) folder you wish to access
    2. Right-click the parent folder
    3. Select 'Properties'
    4. On the folder properties dialog, select the 'Security' tab (post back if you don't have this tab - we can help)
    5. Press the 'Advanced' button
    6. On the advanced security settings dialog, select the 'Owner' tab
    7. Under 'Change Owner To', select one of your administrative accounts
    8. Check the box next to 'Replace Owner On Subcontainers And Objects'
    9. Apply your settings

Now, windows will make your current administrative account the owner of all the files in the root folder you selected. You may also need to define permissions, but we can help you with that. Post back and let us know how it goes!

@TimW NEEENER NEENER NEENER!!! I post FASTER :p

Did you try right clicking the folder / properties / security and adding your user with full rights?

Sorry, Mada ...must have been napping again.

    Wow. Thank you!
No I did not try right clicking the folder - however, it looks like you have given me enough to access. Thank you.

what if the security tab doesn't appear (Mada #4)?

If that's the case, then we will have to turn off simple file sharing. Here's how:

    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Select 'Folder Options' from the 'Tools' menu
    3. On the 'Folder Options' dialog, select the 'View' tab
    4. Under 'Advanced Settings' scroll down to 'Use Simple File Sharing'
    5. Uncheck the box next to 'Use Simple File Sharing' (or check it - I can't remember which)
    6. Apply your settings

Now, when you go into the properties of any file and folder you should have a sercurity tab where you can apply the actions Tim and I are recommending you to.

and/or if your using XP Home you'll need to boot into Safe Mode to take Ownership of files and folders.
