Windows Xp Problem

Hi

Bought a new PC yesterday - pretty high spec, but mistakenly loaded Windows 98 SE onto it as it came without an OS.

This failed to load, and a few people told me that 98 SE isn't compatible - so i've been an got XP today.

Tried loading XP - it goes to the Setup screen - then says "Please insert CD into CD-Rom Drive". The CD is already in - but the computer just doesn't read it. Disk DOES work elsewhere, so there is obviously a problem.

It's a DVD 16X Sony drive - and it is working as it read from the 98 SE disk yesterday - but now just refuses to read the XP disc - even though it MUST have read it at some point in order for the PC to display the XP setup screen.

Please can anyone help - i'm in a real mess and need to get my accounts done for work before Monday. Will be grateful for any suggestions.

I assume you have no data on that drive. It's always best to do a clean install


1. Ensure BIOS is set to boot from CD before IDE0
2. Put XP CD in Drive
3. Restart
4. Machine should boot from CD
5. Format your drive as NTFS
6. Follow installation procedure
