Windows XP problem

Bought a game for my GF for V. Day. Installed it, and the comp died.
Repeatedly got dell blue memory dump screen indicating that systemroot/system32/config/SAM is corrupt or missing.
Attempted to reload XP with the disk that came with her dell.
Attempted to reload without formatting the drive, Would like to just replace the OS if possible.
Went all the way through the loadup procedure, get to the windows loading screen...
then get this error message
Error:
SXS.DLL: syntax error in manifest or policy file"D:\I386\ASMS\1000\MSFT\\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN" on line 4.
Is this problem in the computer? or is it in the WinXP cd?
And what should I do about it?

 

make sure the disk is not scratched or damaged. Clean the cd with rubbing alcohol and a non-lint cloth. Then try again.

 

CD cleaned.
Same error message received.
now what?

ok. found out disk is bad. Its windows media center edition. from Dell.
Dell will not send a new disk as the computers warranty ran our in december.
now what? what can i do, i need replacement media, but dont need to pay for a second licence. where can I go to purchase media to use the current licence?
Any suggestions?

 

Dell will send it out...they have to.

It may not be free, but shouldnt cost very much either.

Yell at a manager and see what they say.
