I'm fixing a friends computer and I found out that he has a corrupted registry and I found the steps to solve it here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 but I don't have his Windows XP Professional disc and there is no recovery partition. However, I do have a Windows XP Home Edition disc and I was wondering if anyone knows if their registry files are interchangeable.

You should be able to use the XP pro disk to get a command prompt in order to copy the files listed in your link. Those registry files are not going to be the most recent. Did you try to use "Last known good configuration" when booting into safe mode?

If he has restore points available, you can download Hirens Boot CD, burn the iso with something like Imgburn, highlight MiniXP at bootup then use registry restore wizard to restore a more current registry hive.
