Windows XP refusing to run programs/open windows?

this has happened to me once before, and the only solution i could find was creating a new user account and moving all my files accross, which is time consuming and tedious.

Basically, my pc will boot as normal, i can log in fine, and then after the initial startup programs run i cant open any other program or folder whatsoever. it just sits there as if i havent done anything. then the taskbar becomes unresponsive and everything just grinds to a halt. Theres nothing i can see directly causing this.

This problem doesnt occur on any of the other user accounts, just mine.

any ideas?

 

Check add/remove programs for anything that says wintools.

 

no sign of that.

ive gone ahead and made a new account to work from anyway, but still holding out for a solution.
