Hi,
I had problems with stop errors. I did an XP Pro sp1 in place install through the XP repair CD. Now all my Network drivers have a yellow ! and I'm getting errors when I dial. After the repair install I did get New Network found and it couldn't find drivers for RAS Async Adapter. In services I can't stop Remote Access Connection Manger. I get an error saying "Could not stop the Remote Access Connection Manager service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator." In Event Viewer I get a warning saying "Remote Access Connection Manger failed to start because NDISWAN could not be opened.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Docfxit

Click on those yellow markers and tell us what you see. Windows may even offer a real solution (rare)

Maybe someone knows of a program that can repair either the services or network of XP pro sp1?

Thanks,

More info. Just in case it helps someone think of something that might help.

I have also gone into add/remove windows components and removed the Network Services successfully.

After a reboot I then went back into the add/remove windows components and tried to add Network Services.

It fails with "Could not install the Simple TCP/IP Services component because a file or registry entry is missing", during the phase where it is "Completing configuration of management and Monitoring tools.."

I also did this:
To Reinstall TCP/IP do the following:

1. Navigate to: C:\windows\inf
2. Find the File: nettcpip.inf
3. Right click the file and choose install

And this to repair TCP/IP:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Yes, Thanks for the thought.

I have downloaded and re-installed all drivers except one.
I can't find a driver for RAS Async Adapter. I did get an error saying it can't find the driver. There is currently one Unknown device that I think is the RAS Async Adapter.
If anyone know where it might be that would be great.

MS has an article on this, but it doesnt do diddly.

This happened after doing a repair install, correct?

You need to get all of your Windows Updates back. The repair strips all of them, but leaves the updated registry entries in place, causing conflict.

I think you are correct. If it's a 100% correct or not I have no idea. The original problem with BSD stop errors I think has been corrected with all the repairs I have done. I do think the XP repair install did cause a hole new set of problems. I have run a number of registry fix programs claiming to repair the registry. I can see they do find broken links and remove un-used extentions which seems to me can cause more problems. I do have the Critical Updates Rollup 1 Oct 15 2003 WindowsXP-KB826939-x86-ENU.exe which I applied and it didn't seem to fix anything. I don't know of a later version of the updates in a package like that. I have a file that may apply the later fixes called AutoPatcherXP_Feb_Patched.zip which I think the last one put together for sp1. I'm waiting for a call right now from MS research team to see if he can fix it. If he can't I'll do a backup and then apply the AutoPatcher.

Thanks for the thoughts,

I used to work on the MS research team (the official job name is OSRII) until February of this year. We used to refer to it as the "Format" team ;)

Be aware, they like to format you.

Have you installed SP2 yet?

If you have a case number (SRX number), and don't mind sharing it, send it to me in PM, and I will have my friend look at it as well. I mentored, shaped, and molded her into a helluva tech:) IIRC, she is also on the research team. She can review the notes and add input, if needed.

I have not installed SP2 yet. I have some programs that I have been told won't run in sp2. At the moment I 'm thinking if that would fix this issue I might install sp2. I am currently on the phone with the format team. He found multiple entries for all devices in the VEN entries. We have removed the multiple entries for the network cards. I am trying to install the drivers for the network cards now. Do you know if SP2 would clean up the bad registry entries?

I sent you my case #

Thanks,
