Thank you Nick. Now we only need to find out which countries this applies to. The last time Microsoft issued a statement about the SP3 release it caused a telephone storm in several countries - people called their national Microsoft service because they could not find the download link.

It wasn't until weeks later that the last of the countries got access to their service pack in their own language.

Microsoft apparently haven't learned or will they service all countries simoultaniously this time?

When does this go into effect?

"Shortly", Microsoft said. Whatever that is. In some not specified language at/in some unspecified location/nation. Or something. Approximately. :-D

Wont need a download link as info is refering to Automatic Updates (AU) which is done internally via the OS's updater, if user has it set on.

Various language packs do tend to follow a week or two later after English versions, but as far as I know the majority of language packs are available ( looked on MSDN and MUI and many Home Lang versions are listed ) but as usual they will not update all at once, it will be a staggered release to AU, mainly as they have learned that if there is an issue ( Symantec and HP two notables ) they they limit exposure, any software company with the amount of users Microsoft have is a logical approach.

Also by limiting the load on the servers, keeps the downloads service from being crippled, another thing learned from past experiences.

Soon is likely to be in next few weeks, maybe around the time at end of month when Windows Update Infastructure gets an update, cannot see it released this week as its Patch Tuesday week, when all the hotfix and security updates are released.

Cheers Nick for the update on release, if thats in english format date, still think I'd have left it for a week, to get past the gremlins that sometime appear from hotfixes on PTuesday.

    Hi everyone :)

Please note in that My personal experience with this update is that you may find some software will no longer work. Also please note that My own personal findings are that this is most unlikely for the vast amount of users but there will be some notably those of you who use certain Themes, Visual Styles, Skins, Wallpapers, Backgrounds, Icons, Cursors, Logons, Boot Screen types of software
