Downloaded from Microsft Windows Update site, 60MB everything downloaded fine but won't install.

    Windows XP SP2
    AVG Free Edition
    ZoneAlarm Free
    Spyware Terminator 2.2.1.433
    Iobit Advanced WindowsCare Beta3 2.02
    Iobit SmartDefrag Beta 5.01
    WinPatrol 15.0.2008.0
    Iobit SmartRam
    Cactus Spam Filter 2.13
    Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition 3.1.1014

I've tried all the recommended work-arounds from Microsoft and no luck. Can I safely remove/delete the donwloaded updates?

    Hi

Start by disabling all the array of security softwares you have and try again to install, as one of them may block registry changes, also make sure your logged on as admin.

Logged in as Admin, all security programs shutdown but no go.
Is the 60 MB the correct size? I didn't get the Update notice in the taskbar (I'm set at Automatic Updates).

    Quick note:

When I first tried the download and install I didn't have security progs off/disabled. Spyware Terminator "asked" to allow the update and I quickly clicked the "Install Mode" to allow any other permissions.

I have the full version of SP2 and its over 320mb in size, what you are downloading is probably a web update. Thats a smaller preinstall file that needs to connect and download the rest to install properly. Given the fact that you only have 60mb of it you would be looking at a 270mb download during installation.

If I were you I would look at downloading the entire thing at once and installing that way. Do a google search for "WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe" or go to this page:

    Code:

it should allow you to download the whole thing.

Yes,60 mb is good ,cos you allready install most of updates via microsoft update.

My Bad! SP3 same thing, download this:
    Code:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en
Its says its for IT Pros but it doesn't matter, I use these all the time. This way you can run it from offline but let it connect to the net if it wants. And if you reinstall later you will have the whole thing ready to go next time instead of going thru all this bru ha ha again.

Yeah, it's a real shame. I think may just hold off for awhile until not having becomes a problem. I want to thank everyone here for all their time and help, I really appreciate it.

(The thumbs up is for all the help received)

Just hold off, like you said. I don't think it's going to be detrimental to wait a little while. Obviously, something is going on on MS's end.

    LauraR,

Yeah, hope MS figures out about the stuff that were downloaded in my system.
    Thanks for your help.

If you have IE8 beta, uninstall it before attempting to install SP3.
