I have been using black vipers guide for windows xp services for some time now but have always been hesitant to turn off the system restore service. I just never know when I may need it. What do you guys think about disabling this service... good idea or not?

I wouldn't disable it, but you can cut the amount of space it uses drastically. Just move the slider to minimum and every month or so delete to all but the most recent restore point if you don't need them for backup.
