Windows XP shut down problem help !!!

    Windows will not shut down, it will sit on the "windows is shutting down" screen and will not shut down the PC.

    No Virus was detected.

    I have the same problem but mine is intermittent. Takes sometimes up to 3 minutes setting on "windows is shutting down" before mine actually shuts down. Sometimes it makes one feel a little better when they know they're not alone. May have to do with a device driver acting up now and then.
