Windows Xp Shut Down Slow Or Hangs

On my Netbook using windows xp which I've had for 7 years now, it's taking a long time to shutdown
now.

I've already done the regedit thing to wait to kill timeout and lowered it from 20000 to 2000 and clear memory page file thing also to 0.

Even after that, when I go to shutdown, for some reason it hangs (time glass) for about 1 minute before it asks me if I want to shutdown/restart/log off. Then I choose shutdown and that part takes another 30 seconds or so.

The hard drive is fine, everything works smooth and responsive, it's only when I need to shutdown.

Any other ideas?

 

Have you gone to msconfig and checked what's running at start up ? An unnecessary program process may not be shutting down. If you use Ccleaner you can go to Tools-Start up, and disable any programs not needed at start up.

checking your memory's health ( 7 passes is necessary , about 6-8 hours ) for this test , what is your laptop's specifications ? Run this

Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msinfo32.exe
