I have an XPpro box that's been a great box from Dell (Dimension 8400). For whatever reason, I now have a sound card problem after the machine boots. Pictures of the error are here:

When the machine first is booting up, all system sound is fine until I get an error related to "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services". Once I get that error, it doesn't matter if I click Debug or Close, my "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" goes to minimum volume and is grayed out (as if machine is muted). I can still get Windows warning sounds, etc through the speakers but no audio or video will play sound.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
    TIA
